The Force runs strong in my family

May 16th, 2005

An advert for Star
Wars lottery scratch cards
on Saturday night had Lara telling me
I should get one. Last time I bought a scratch card it was with a pound
I’d found on the street and I won a fiver. So with that precedent in
mind, I picked one up with the Sunday paper (£2, odds of winning:
4.86/1) and forgot about it.

Later, after a beach lunch and a long walk to check out the London-Brighton
Minis, Lara found it. I scratched away and two Princess Leia heads later
I was £3 better off …or £1 accounting for my stake, or
40p worse off accounting for the snacks and treats we celebrated with
as we collected the winnings.

"Get another!" Lara said."You get another" I
replied, and to my considerable surprise she did, and matched 3 x £2
on the sub-game, winning back her stake.

The force is strong in my family. I have it …my wife has it …I need
to get a card for my cat.
