Snow Crash in Second Life

August 15th, 2006

3pointD is reporting that Neil Stephenson’s prescient cyberpunk novel Snow Crash is coming to Second Life.

A Robotperson favourite (how could you not love a story where the main character is called Hiro Protagonist), Snow Crash is credited as inspiration behind SL, so there’s the relevance. But what does it mean to bring a book to an MMO? They’re certainly not talking about recreating the environment, or allowing gamers to partake in the story in any way. Rather less excitingly they’re offering:

…only a sampler of portions of the text and excerpts from an audio version – with a special discount (presumably on paper-and-ink purchases) being offered to Second Life residents.

So no need to sign-up for an account just yet, Julian. But Second Life continues to look interesting.
