Parallel Dining
August 29th, 2003
We’ve been for the ‘official menu tasting’ tonight, at Deans Place, our wedding venue.
As they knew our menu choices in advance, the food was already prepared. Consequently the service was alarmingly fast – I think I’ve waited longer for a cheese burger than for the entire waiting time put together tonight. This sounds great, but it was actually a little disconcerting. It felt a bit like we’d slipped through to a parallel reality, where waiters can know your order without asking (through some kind of mind-reading, presumably), and the food is instantly snapped into existence.
Unfortunately restaurant bills also exist in this parallel reality. Naturally, in keeping with the exaggerated nature of events, ours was perculiarly large, although they do accept Visa.
As a result of this tasting we have made some changes to the planned menu. Read a full report on the wedding menu page >
