Wedding Menu

September 1st, 2003

Okay, we’ve tasted the food, we’ve taken advice from everybody from Mothers to cab drivers, and we’ve thought through the permutations and consequences. Mostly though, we’ve relied upon the evidence of our own tongues, and have decided to change the main course option for Omnivores.

The pork was nicer.

Much nicer, in fact. Although the standard of all the food we tasted was very high, the chicken, even with the help of a bacon wrap, couldn’t match the texture and flavour of the pork medallions. The pork comes with champ mash (potatos), a lovely sweet jus, string beans and caremelised onions. Mmmm-mmmmmm. It really was lovely.

Sorry for folks who avoid pork – it is a white(ish) meat… kinda.

The fishcake, to start, was very very tasty and beautifully presented, on a salad bed with beetroot fondant drizzled over. Melon for the veggies was also very well turned out, and as tasty as we expected.

Dessert voting upset our incumbent choice, with the dark chocolate truffle trumping the cheesecake roundlets. These turned out to be smallish, with a high pastry-to-cake ratio, which led to a rather dry mouth experience. The truffle was lush without being too rich or dense, and although I didn’t quite finish mine, I reckon that this was due to the serial speed of course delivery.

Anyone who requires a vegetarian menu should’ve already told us. Please let us know ASAP if you need to switch.

Here’s the final menu, in full.

Omnivores

  • Smoked Haddock fishcake
  • Medallions of Pork with Champ Mash, String Beans and Caremelised onions

Vegetarians

  • Fan of galia melon with exotic fruits and mango coulis
  • Roquefort, spinach and baby red onion tart, roquette and mizano reduced balsamic

Desserts

  • Dark Chocolate truffle with Chantilly cream and toasted hazlenuts
  • With Freshly ground coffee and mints to follow

The main meal will be served at around 6pm (remember, proceedings start late, at 4pm). In addition to the above menu there’ll be canapés with the drinks immediately after the ceremony, and an evening buffet served at around 9pm. Anyone still hungry after that lot is entitled to claim their wedding gift back*

*Offer does not extend to JJ.
