FedExtacy
December 19th, 2003
Lara’s Christmas present this year is a somewhat overdue replacement for her Casio wrist watch. I’m getting her a Rado, and a combination of the weak dollar and rip-off Britian at it’s laughable worst made a US purchase very attractive.
So, last Saturday I made the transaction at watchwarehouse.com, who have been efficient enough to earn a recommendation, and the package was despatched by FedEx on Tuesday.
This is the first time I’ve had a couriered package which allows online tracking, and I’ve been rather excited about being able to see exactly where it is at any given moment. From California to Indianapolis to Stanstead, following my package’s glamourous progress has become something of a obsession this week.
Waiting for something in the mail has always been this way for me. If the postman could have come any number of times in the day when I was growing up, then I’m sure the 12 year-old Robotperson would have been checking the doormat every half-hour for his Rancor Keeper (allow 28 agonising days for delivery).
Today it’s my browser’s refresh button I’m clicking compulsively, and each step in the watch’s journey builds my anticipation of the delivery pay-off.
Now if only I could get out of paying the vat.
Update Mon 22 December: Watch arrived – hooray! Now I’m getting a new camera Parcelforced from Hong Kong – and in comparison, they’re rubbish.
