They're so far ahead of the game, so totally beyond our comprehension that their style appears (to our uninitiated eyes) to be shite. How backward we must be.

Notice, incidentally, how the wing mirrors are halfway down the bonnet. All the cabs were like this, allowing for a disconcerting view of your own ugly boat when sat in the front seat.
