- Star Wars chubbies. Russian dolls from a galaxy far, far away.
- Robotperson loves this baroque wallpaper by Gampus Fratesi. Take a closer look at the pattern.
- Chomsky on Iran, energy and America’s gangster approach to foreign policy
China … does not get intimidated when Uncle Sam shakes his fist. That’s scary. In particular, it’s dangerous in the case of the Middle East. China is the center of the Asian energy security grid, which includes the Central Asian states and Russia. India is also hovering around the edge, South Korea is involved, and Iran is an associate member of some kind. If the Middle East oil resources around the Gulf, which are the main ones in the world, if they link up to the Asian grid, the United States is really a second-rate power. A lot is at stake in not withdrawing from Iraq
- List of Daft Punk samples, complete with links to the often shockingly similar originating songs
- Global annual digital output estimated at 161Eb – that’s Exabytes, each of which equals a thousand million Gb. In more familiar terms, that’s 161billion gig.
The sheer amount of data … becomes clear when comparing it with the spoken word. Experts estimate that all human language since the dawn of time would take up about 5 exabytes if stored in digital form. In comparison, last year’s email traffic accounted for 6 exabytes
Interesting to note that the iPod has become the default ‘understandable’ unit of digital memory, as the football pitch is for length. Another cultural success for Jobs.

- Pete, for some reason, thinks this might come in handy for Robotperson: Tokyo mens handbags. Love that first comment.
- Stef points out 1stAveMachine, and their portfolio of very fancy video creative. Check out the creepily alien entomology in TED, a music video for Warp records’ Chris Clarke; and the ‘Sixes last’ clip. Try not to get annoyed at the pointless flash interface, which prevents me from linking to these directly.
