Yawn… what was in that apple?

No, dear readers, unfortunately I have not been asleep for the past two months. Far from it. With all sorts of things going on, blogging has been a low priority. But the fog is lifting, and I feel the muse alighting on my shoulders even as I type. Let us all look forward to more regular updates, and in the mean-time, here’s what’s been keeping kept me busy:

  • About the time of my last post I bought a new TV. This, as every man knows, is the most significant consumer electronics purchase there is. It’s a Panasonic 32″ LCD, and thus far I’m pretty happy with it. Certainly, it exposes mercilessly the rubbish quality you get from ntl Virgin Media. It is great for dvd’s, though, although my Panasonic HDD has just conked out, so Panasonic don’t get the Robotperson endorsement
  • On the same day I bought a Squeezebox. More on this later, but suffice to say that I now spend every spare waking moment ripping cd’s…
  • …And then listing them on Amazon. I’ve sold about 20 cd’s so far, all from my boot-sale stock. Takings are around the £130 mark, so not a bad average. I’ve also climbed back on the eBay horse, and my junk drawer of old phones and broken iPods is steadily, gratifyingly, emptying. It all takes time, but thankfully I have a faithful Post Office mule to take care of that end (kiss). Paypal, incidentally, now lets you print your own postage for items, and charges you (at normal Post Office rates) directly from your account. This is fantastic, and much better than the Post Office equivalent service, which you have to pay for. If only Amazon would do the same.
  • I’ve been job hunting. The last two months have been intensive: I’ve had about a dozen interviews, but I’m delighted to report that I’ve just accepted a job as a consultant at Detica, and gave my notice last Friday. All-change soon
  • But not before a couple of big projects go out the door at tmg – for the Healthcare Commission (again), and online bookies, Blue Square, for whom I’ve run the most interesting user testing sessions I’ve ever had. More on that later. It’s been a late nights, weekends, both ends of the candle kind-of spell, and looks set to continue right up until I leave.
  • And that’s not all we’ve been up to …more on that, yes, later

Many thanks for the outpouring of concern and affection at my absence (all three of you, Mother included). You make it all worthwile. [Note to self: locate dry sarcasm emoticon].
